Time Machine, a utility included in the Mac OS starting with version 10.5, has made it a no-brainer to back up a Mac compter to an external hard drive or Apple Time Capsule. However, a frequent complaint from users is that the automatic backups occur every hour, which for someone who stores a large number of files on their computer can be disruptive since it affects computer processing speed and available network bandwidth.
Although Apple has not offered a solution built into the operating system, there are two utilities available that allow users to easily adjust the back up frequency:
